Why We Choose Suet Tallow at Moo LaLa
When we started Moo LaLa, we weren’t trying to follow trends, we were following curiosity, tradition, and a deep respect for ingredients that actually make sense. One of those ingredients is suet tallow, and it has become the heart of everything we make.
We often get asked, “Isn’t all tallow the same?”
The short answer is “no” and that difference matters.
Why Tallow Was Used for Generations
Long before modern skincare aisles existed, people relied on what they had, and animal fats were a cornerstone of personal care. Tallow was commonly used in balms, soaps, and salves because it was stable, long-lasting, and versatile.
Over time, these traditions faded as industrial cosmetics took over and animal-based ingredients were pushed aside in favor of synthetics and highly processed alternatives. At Moo LaLa, we see this not as something outdated, but as forgotten wisdom worth revisiting.
Why You Don’t Hear About Suet Often
Suet isn’t widely talked about because it’s not mass-produced for cosmetics. It requires intentional sourcing, careful rendering, and a slower process overall. It’s easier to use cheaper fats or fillers, but that’s never been our approach.
We choose suet because it aligns with our values:
Using the animal respectfully and responsibly
Reducing waste by honoring the whole resource
Creating small-batch products with integrity
Our Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability matters deeply to us. By using suet tallow, we’re working with a natural byproduct that might otherwise go unused. Our sourcing focuses on responsibly raised animals, and our production process is intentionally small and mindful.
This choice allows us to support a more thoughtful supply chain while keeping our ingredient list short and honest.
Why Suet Tallow Is Easy to Work With
One of the reasons we love suet tallow as makers is how beautifully it blends with natural oils and botanicals. Its structure makes it an ideal base for gentle infusions, allowing us to pair it with ingredients we love, without needing fillers or stabilizers.
This simplicity gives us the flexibility to create balms that feel luxurious while staying grounded in minimalism.
What Our Community Has Shared With Us
We’re always grateful when customers take the time to tell us how our products fit into their routines. A couple of notes that have stuck with us:
“I was surprised by how little I needed. One jar lasted me months, and my skin just felt more comfortable.”
“I use it daily now, it’s simple, clean, and feels like something my skin actually understands.”
We never take these messages lightly.
They remind us why we started and why we continue to keep Moo LaLa small, intentional, and ingredient-focused.
Why We’ll Continue Choosing Suet
At Moo LaLa, suet tallow isn’t a trend; it’s a conscious choice. It reflects our belief that skincare doesn’t need to be complicated to be thoughtful, and that sometimes the best ingredients are the ones people forgot to talk about.
We’re proud to bring this traditional ingredient into modern routines with care, respect, and transparency — and we’re grateful you’re here with us on that journey.
